Flexible seating is good practice for all ages, but it makes no greater sense than in TK where kids start at age 4 and need to wiggle and move and dance in order to learn. My students are working on learning how to control their bodies and impulses at the same time as they are learning to read, write, communicate and use numbers.
Being able to choose to sit on a cushion with a lap desk, on a balance ball at a table or even on a wobble chair where they can release energy AS they work will allow my students to learn all of the academics while learning to LOVE learning at the same time! Instead of asking them focus on sitting criss-cross applesauce, they can focus on LEARNING!
