I teach in a low income area. However, the students do not use that as an excuse to do poorly. Most parents support the teachers, as well as listen to recommendations, and will ask what they can do to help their child to succeed.
Students respond with wide eyes and thankfulness when they are blessed with the knowledge that comes with gaining a new "tool" to use in their learning experiences at school. We are all (teachers, parents, and students) very fortunate and thankful that we have an organization like Donor's Choose that is interested in giving students another leg of support toward their/our success!
