My students attend a Title 1 school, and many deal with poverty at home. The support they get at home varies from family to family. The students who are most successful have parent support, such as homework help and time devoted to reading. Many kids don't have that support at home and often struggle with vocabulary, blending sounds and recognizing sight words. My students are young, 6 or 7 years old. They are very active and love to use manipulatives in class. They are anxious to learn new things and very curious. Giving them fun, hands on ways to learn is important. I want to engage all of my students and help each one to be successful.
