Let’s face it, Shakespeare is difficult for any reader to understand. I’ve found that students are more likely TO READ a side-by-side translation than NOT TO READ the obscure and unfamiliar Shakespearean language. Because my district does not provide the side-by-side translations of great works of Shakespeare, I am forced to go online and project and enlarge the text on the board.
With a side-by-side translation like No Fear Shakespeare, students become engaged and excited to read aloud. Unfortunately, no one has a book in his or her hands. All reading is done from the projection on the board.
