Most of my students come from Mexico. They have never spoken our language before they have entered our school. Everyone in the community speaks Spanish, so they don't get exposed to the English language very often. They live in a very depressed area of Florida, but have a great sense of family and community. They arrive at school each day and try as hard as they can. About a third of my students are migrant which means the families travel from place to place picking vegetables. Some are taken out of school for a few months until they move to another location for work. Most of my students stay at our school every year. This is the most grateful and thankful community I have worked with since I started teaching 12 years ago.
