As an educator, you often do what you need to do to get the job done. Educators are frugal and know how to stretch a dollar. Often times this means piecing things together or waiting. My current students have spent their entire lives doing just that. They can't wait anymore. It would be very beneficial for them to have what they need from the very start. The majority of my students begin the school year already behind. Students need basic supplies like binders to organize both their reading and writing daily. The binders will be a place to store their work each day. Students will also use their binders as a resource where they will keep different tools to help them in both reading and writing. It is important for students to learn organizational skills also. Using dividers in their binders enables me to teach them how to organizer their work, and with today's demanding curriculum, that is very important. PENCILS are key to learning! They have to use something to show all their thinking and learning. With so many other things to worry about, not to mention state testing, they shouldn't have to worry about something as trivial as pencils, binders and dividers!
