Students need to move! As technology use grows students are becoming more sedentary and the amount of time spent outside has lessened. With Flexible or Choice Seating students can move around through out the day as they learn and create. Within flexible seating the traditional desks and chairs are removed from the room to give diversity in choice seating. There is more available space for whole group and movement activities. The selections I've chosen will give students options in ways that will help them be more engaged and taking ownership in their learning. The Wobble Stools helps the student stay supported and comfortable while they wiggle around on their stool. Ordinary chairs and stools force growing bodies into unnatural, static positions that are uncomfortable and don't help a child's posture. The balance balls and peanut balls will offer the same benefits and help with building their core. The air stability cushions provide sensory stimulation and keep their feet busy. When students are on stability balls, wobble stools, or even the cushions their bodies are engaged and studies have proven then their minds are also engaged. Students who are more physically active have lower instances of discipline and higher academic performance. By having a variety of options for students more will be able to benefit and have more control in their learning environment. My goal is to have a variety of options for students to choose from that will increase their movement, focus, and productivity in the classroom.
