Are you comfortable and able to concentrate after sitting in the same seat for seven hours a day? Well, neither are my students which is why I would like to include more flexible seating in my classroom. It will not only make my students more comfortable but better able to concentrate, stay focused and enjoy being at school!
Flexible seating will also give my students the power to choose the seating that works best for their learning style and needs. Some children may have lots of energy and need the balance ball to help them focus. Some may like to stand at the high table. Others may prefer to sit in a gaming chair, a saucer chair or on a pillow on the floor. Students learn to take ownership of their education and become more invested in the learning they do throughout the day.
Collaboration and cooperation happen naturally in this student-centered learning environment. I hope this leads to more creativity among the students and gives them a sense of community within our room.
I am really wanting my students to feel empowered to make choices that work for them and that they are excited to come to our classroom each day!
