Teaching in a 90-year-old building is difficult when the outside temperature reaches 75-80 degrees. We start back to school at the end of August, but in Ohio, it can be hot until the end of September. It can be hot again by the beginning of April. Even though this doesn't seem long, it can in fact, cover 10-12 weeks, which is almost 1/3 of the school year.
Students just can not learn in 90-degree classrooms. My wing of the building does not have air conditioners. The district will not supply them for classrooms. My room has direct sunlight which causes the room to get extremely hot. Even with fans running, the classroom can get as high as 90 degrees, which is not conducive for learning. Having up to 25 students in a class does not help.
