My students come with a variety of physical, academic, and social needs. They require a variety of ways to engage and interact with the school environment. The seating options that I have requested will help them better engage with their learning environment. Many of my students have a difficult time sitting unassisted during carpet times. The cube chairs have shown to be effective ways of supporting these activities, however, we only have one available in the school right now. With these additional chairs more of the students will have the opportunity to receive the support they need.
Adding movement and variety into the seating options available in my classroom will help my students engage in instruction in ways previously unavailable. By giving options to get the wiggles and movement out my students will get to spend their time learning, not being redirected to their chairs. We have tested the chair bands in my classroom and many of the students benefit from them. However, we do not have enough for the whole class. If we could get a class set it would eliminate the need to move chairs between groups or fight over who's turn it is to use it.
