My students come from rural low income homes. More than 60 percent of my student population receive free or reduced lunches. Many students don't have their basic needs met. They typically do not receive support or encouragement to read at home. Many of my students domestic situations make it difficult to build bridges between school and home. They lack motivation to read, or even learn at times. My school strives to provide a safe, learning environment that not only teaches the basics, but offer alternatives. In order to reach all children; including children with special needs, staff members must be creative, and innovative.
