I teach computer skills to students in grades 4, 5 and 6 in a rural community. I am a Google certified educator. I have a lot of fun using Google apps to help their learning. Through Google Slides, I incorporate public speaking by encouraging each student to present. Another big focus is cyber safety and etiquette. I use bulletin boards in the classroom and hallways to reinforce these topics. Technology is more than typing. If we don't embrace it and put it positively into the hands of our youth, they will find other means. As the mother of preschoolers that have been able to successfully use my smartphone since age 2, I know that it is vital to incorporate technology into all aspects of learning. Education has to be more than just worksheets. It has to be touched, creative, and engaging. Even our migrant, Native, immigrant and poverty students are able to use technology if only we can provide it to them.
