All 6th and 7th grade students take General Music with class sizes up to 40 students. In General Music we explore different genres and styles of music by singing and playing various instruments, including the ukulele. I work to make this class interesting, engaging, fun, and inspiring for all of my students.
Students are very excited to learn to play the ukulele so they can sing songs while accompanying themselves and learn to write their own music.
The ukulele is a simple, inexpensive and compact instrument that people of all ages find accessible and easy to learn. We will be able to play simple songs within the first week, and students will be able to quickly move on to more complex songs and become singer-songwriters and music makers in their own right. Our school currently has 20 ukuleles, but I would like for every student to have their own instrument to play on (due to concerns with sharing equipment in the time of COVID.)
