My students are excited to read and work all around the room! They get to choose where they want to read and work throughout the day! For most of my students, they are currently piling up in "our classroom library" on a small carpet and a bean bag that I picked up at a garage sale during our choice time. I would love to provide two comfortable areas for them to go with clean rugs and for them to be able to bring their materials with them in personal book bins to provide as little distractions as possible and the most engagement.
They have taken ownership over their learning by choosing where they focus best! One rug will be at our library for kids to sit on while picking out a book and big enough to use as a spot to read and work at with a clipboard as one choice seating option. The other rug will also serve two purposes. It will be used for whole group instruction during mini lessons for Daily 5 and will be another choice area for reading and working on tasks. The book bins will be used to keep 2-3 personal reading books for "Read to Self," journals for "Work on Writing," a folder, and other tools necessary for our daily tasks that we are currently focusing on.
Creating an organized and comfortable learning environment helps us to focus on our daily learning goals and thrive each day!
