The students in my class will be given the best surprise of their school year: a wide variety of alternative seating. This would far surpass the little pillows (that they absolutely love) I found on sale before the start of the school year. Having seating options including stools, a rug, and seat cushions in our classroom will elevate learning to higher levels for the remainder of the school year.
The ability to provide every student in class with an alternative option to just a regular chair would create a positively fun and engaging learning environment. My students need options for where and how they will "sit." These materials will create a student-centered learning environment where everyone can find a place that works for their body.
Wobble stools will allow students to move, wiggle, and fidget without disrupting other students. Cushion seats can be used around the legless desks that are low to the ground. The Big Joe chairs can placed on the area rug, creating a comfortable place to read, write, and work on projects throughout the day. By eliminating some of the traditional chairs and desks, our classroom will have a lot more space so that the students can use their bodies to learn.
