My students are English Language Learners attending a public school in California. They are kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learners who are not given a chance to learn through these modalities. They need to see the way reading works and sounds through the use of tactile manipulatives, such as the Toshiba Thrive Tablet, which addresses all 3 modalities. They come from low income families in which many times both parents work in order to maintain their household. Since my students are English Language Learners they need as many visual aides as possible to make their learning more meaningful and comprehensible. They need to explicitly see how sounds can be physically manipulated to form new words, and in turn discover common word patterns that will aide them in reading.Unfortunately, at home my students don't have technological access due to economic hardships. The only place they are able to access technology is at school and our school is limited due to budget cuts.
