Once a student is in my classroom, they forever remain my kid. I have taught at my school for 21 years and am at the point in my career where some of my babies are having babies. It is an amazing treasure to see that cycle continue and to know I am entrusted with the care of generations. What I teach them is small in comparison to what they teach me.
We are a Title One school district in a small inner city and due to budget cuts we all pull from our pockets to try to cover the costs of extra projects and supplies. If a child cannot have their basic needs met, they cannot be expected to learn and utilize higher order thinking skills.
I would love to see my students realize their potential and to become what I have always known they were capable of being. I wish for them to see beyond the walls of their apartment complex into the world that can await them and to be PREPARED for what new jobs will require of them!
