I have selected items for my project that will help my classroom run more efficiently. My students spent their first year of school at home, online, in their comfort zone and they are now struggling to adjust to the classroom environment.
Most of my students had never put a pencil to paper prior to coming to school 8 weeks ago.
My goal is to get them writing as much as possible and the paper, pencils, and erasers that I selected will help with that. (W1.1-9) I have also selected items to keep them more engaged because the pre-pandemic methods are not as successful with this new era of students.
Along with writing I have selected items that will make navigating the classroom easier for the students. Currently students are struggling with independence. Many tasks, such as getting their workbooks or lesson materials, take up valuable learning time so I have selected some items to reduce that time. A cart will be placed at every group to hold student materials (workbooks, pencils, crayons, math manipulatives, paper, etc.). The 10 compartment organizers will be used as student mailboxes. They will use them to help manage the materials that need to go home with them. The posters that I selected will be visual cues to help students remember things such as the writing process, parts of speech, and the ABC's. The privacy shields will help me get more accurate assessment results, which in turn will help me create more effective instruction. The Play-Doh will be used in small groups to help us work on phonemic awareness (RF1.3). A well developed understanding of letter sounds builds a strong foundation for writing.
