I teach Special Education at a large (1700 student) college-prep-focused public school in Northern California. I currently teach 2 classes of Study Skills and a double period of Reading Intervention.
All of my students struggle with the mechanics of being students; learning about how to be an effective learner makes a HUGE difference for students with learning disabilities.
Research on drop-out prevention emphasizes the importance of metacognition and self-advocacy. The curricula I bring to my students will help them develop a stronger sense of their own abilities and strengths, while giving them tools to compensate for areas where they need to continue to grow.
