My classroom environment should encourage collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are forced to sit at their desks all day. Kids need flexible seating in the classroom because an uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student.
Traditional desks can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies. Flexible seating will empower students to select a productive seat and take ownership over their learning, whether they are working collaboratively or independently.
Giving students the power to choose their own learning style and space is a wonderful tool to teach students to be life-long learners!
