I would love to give my students the opportunity to read books both fiction and nonfiction that are outside of the required curriculum. It’s my goal to get students excited about reading, and let them have some control over what they choose to read. I also want them to be exposed to different types of writing and viewpoints. Lastly, I have over half of my students classified as long-term English language learners, which means that they have not been re-designated as English language proficient. It is my firm belief that reading increases confidence in the language and and contributes to improved vocabulary in the English language. I would love to create a book club within my classroom, a coffee shop environment if you will, as well as get some lit circles started. Thank you!
