Research from both learning theory and classroom studies shows that using manipulatives (blocks, flashcards, dice, protractors) to help teach math can positively affect student learning. Incorporating manipulatives into mathematics lessons in meaningful ways helps students grasp concepts with greater ease, making teaching most effective. Since my students learn at different speeds and different levels having the appropriate manipulatives for math will help them understand our math objectives and it will also create a more hands on and engaging learning environment. I want my students to love math and love learning in different ways. I want them to be able to take what they have learned and apply it to real world situations and problems making them more successful in what ever they chose to do in their future careers.
