This is my first year teaching in a self-contained primary classroom. My class consists of 16 very active and energetic 4th grade learners with diverse backgrounds and diverse needs. These students are avid readers and love to work in a variety of ways. Students work independently, in pairs and in groups to complete tasks throughout the day. Many of my students prefer to stand at their desks, sit on their knees, sit on the floor, and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle while working. Some of my students have special needs that require extra attention and resources in order to provide for their success. About 75% of the students in my school qualify for free/reduced lunch and therefore rely on me or the school to help provide basic school supplies, uniforms or snacks for long weekends.
