We all know how important literacy is, especially in the lives of young students. Reading opens doors to new ideas, new places, and new experiences. It allows students the opportunity to discover things they never could have imagined before. My district has put a focus on literacy the last few years and as I go back to the music classroom I want to take what I have learned back into the music classroom.
There are so many quality children books that help teach musical concepts and encourage students to explore while in the music room! These books provide a glimpse into the massive world of music as there are so many musicians, instruments, styles, stories, and songs just waiting to be discovered!
With this project, my students will have the opportunity to learn about new composers, new music styles, new instruments, new performers, and new songs. Some books will be read aloud, while others they will get to experience through pre-recorded music and storytelling. Students will also use these books for independent reading during centers and other projects.
