We use our senses to receive information about our environment. Children need to have the ability to respond appropriately to their experiences. The use of headphones allows children to cope with overwhelming noise input and volume. Using an oral chew fidget helps students who have a lower sensitivity to oral input which can affect speech and sound production. Pressure vests and weighted pads help children with body awareness and to be calm. Some students just need to fidget and move. The use of manipulatives and flexible seating such as a wobble chair help students focus their minds by engaging their busy bodies.

By having the right tools, students can learn to manage their impulses and behaviors, and maximize their learning. Sensory materials will help me to meet the unique needs of each student to assist them on their path to success.
