Flexible seating and sensory tools allow students to take charge of their learning, make the choices that work best for them, enhance attention and academic performance. Students are able to work in different locations within the classroom that allows them to be comfortable and learn effectively. Whether that is sitting on a wobble seat, standing at their desk or table, or laying on the floor with a clipboard or tray they are able to find a location that allows them to learn best and motivate them to complete the activities. Since using selective seating, we have noticed our students taking ownership of their learning and work ethic. They work their best when all other stimuli and restrictions have been taken out of the equation.
We have also included fidgets, therapy putty, Play-doh and chair bands for our students sensory needs. Not only will the flexible seating assist with our students learning but the sensory tools will allow our students to focus while learning and working throughout the day. When students use intentional fidgeting tools it can enhance attention and academic performance for students. We have seen this on a daily basis with our students!
The seating choices that we have chosen will help our students by giving them additional seating options and allow some movement to get their wiggles out. The comfy floor seats, rocking chair and satellite chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. The standing desks are also a great alternative for the student who likes to stand and work.
All of the items on our wish list will allow our students to work hard, be able to focus and increase their academic performance! We cannot wait to see what they will be able to achieve!!
