My students come into my classroom eager to learn math but often become restless and uncomfortable during the class from sitting in their hard, uncomfortable desks. Sometimes they need a different work area to help their best math work come forward. When given the opportunity to choose where they work students often choose to move to the one table at the back of the room that is currently available, or to the floor to work. By providing them with tables, chairs, and stools students will be more comfortable and better able to focus on their math work.
Collaboration is a key aspect of mathematics learning and providing students with tables and chairs to work at will allow their meaningful conversations to take place. The items that I have chosen will allow students to sit comfortably at tables to collaborate with their peers and have a spot to do their math work. The stools will allow students to comfortably sit in different locations of the room while working independently, with partners or groups.
