During the school day, my students are often times observed bouncing in their seats, tapping an item against a hard surface, squirming in their seats, kicking the desk in front of them, leaning back in their chair, tilting side to side, etc. This is not only distracting to peers but can be a safety concern as well.
Incorporating flexible seating options into my classroom will make a difference in my students' day, not only with their academics but it will also give them the sensory regulation they are seeking through other means. Most of my students have Autism and many of them also have secondary disabilities. Focusing is an everyday struggle for them as well as sensory regulation.
