Currently, our classroom has no computers, iPads or tablets, but as technology becomes more and more engrained in our every day lives, it's critical that students have access to iPads to develop their technology fluency.
iPads will offer my students the chance to take their education to the next level.
There are thousands of applications aligned with the Common Core that help scholars hone and accelerate essential reading, writing, math, science, and art skills. I plan to utilize our class set to increase student engagement in each of these areas. I’m particularly excited about the opportunity to engage students with apps like AudioBoom, which we will use during our center time to practice and improve reading fluency. The use of this app will give students ownership of their education because it allows them to record themselves reading, listen to the audio, share the recording, and make and track their own fluency goals.
Without access to this kind of technology, the achievement gap continues to grow. It really does take a village to raise a child, and your contribution is so much more than an investment in this project -- it's an investment my first graders' futures, in OUR future.
