With my students being all below grade 1, including students with disabilities, they need tools that allow them to manipulate and visualize the coding. The Osmo gives children hands-on coding and allows them to manipulate the blocks. Bloxels allows students to use pixels to create their own video game. Code-a-pillar gives the students a robot to program in the simplest form. By receiving these materials, it will give my students more opportunities to code. Rather than using unplugged materials students will be able to use technology and become more engaged. Introducing children to computer programming and coding at a young age gives them an edge up for the future. With so many careers in the ever-growing computer science field, children often receive little or no exposure to programming until high school or even college. At the young age of 5, my students are learning how to code and are engaged in not only playing on computers and tablets but creating with them. Coding also helps the students with their computational thinking and problem solving. All skills that are important in all of their subject areas.
