These students are largely learning English as their second language. They come from families where the parents work hard, and family is important. They are great kids who love to learn and love to have fun and laugh. Because they are learning a new language, literacy is of the utmost importance. Our class is also the inclusion class for first grade. Therefore we have all the Special Ed. (Resource) students in our school that are enrolled in first grade. This involves quite a lot of small group and one on one intervention. What that means to my class is that they need to have meaningful learning opportunities at small group centers so that others in the class might be called to a reading group, or called up to meet with the teacher for editing a writing sample, or to be tested.
