We are in need of many things for our first-grade classroom. I have pictured my students being exposed new technology and using these items and gaining a true learning experience. Many of the items are worn and old. I am starting to create a real learning environment for my students. I would like to use more technology in the use of a modern listening center will help them to listen to stories, phonetic sounds, and improve their literacy skills. Having an Elmo (a document camera) will assist me when working with small and whole group skills. I could use an assignment and work through it with my students. This would be a chance for the students to see how the actual assignment should be done. I find this exceptionally helpful when working on reading (basal text, science, and social studies).
Fun Fridays' Here We Come! Twice a month on Friday's will become fun for the students. They will have an opportunity to work on puzzles, (fine motor, eye-hand coordination) Legos and other activities. This gives the students a chance to use their imaginations and explore activities working individually or in pairs.
I would like to create my library area as a comfortable quiet and learning area. Having fun chairs and carpet pieces allows the students to sit and enjoy the books. I would like to have an aquarium inside the classroom to promote learning about living creatures. Our class took a trip to the aquarium this past school year and to see their faces light up was quite amazing. For some of the students it was their first time seeing aquatic creatures up close. Having a decent pencil sharpener, easel chart paper, and markers will help me teach and create stories for literature and promote writing skills.
