Science is scarcely taught at the elementary level, so this course is most students' first dedicated study of science.
As a result, a lot of my students are intimidated by science--some even start their 7th grade year saying they "aren't any good" at science, or that they "hate it".
My mission in my classroom is twofold: make learning fun and meaningful. We do this by making it hands-on, as much as possible, and making it relevant to my students' lives.
I teach 7th grade Life Science, 8th grade Physical Science, High School Chemistry, and coach High School Robotics and Junior High Track and Field at a 7-12th grade small, rural school. The community is primarily agriculture or timber industries, and the majority of my students come from low-income households.
I love my job, I love my students, and I love doing Science with them every day!
