Picture this: Your teacher is in the front of the room lecturing about regrouping across zeros. "I can't LISTEN to this anymore," you scream in your mind. "I wish she would SHOW us how to do it and then let us practice ON OUR OWN." We have all felt this way time and time again in our own learning, whether it was 20 years, 20 days, or 20 minutes ago! Teaching students with varying abilities it is essential to group them appropriately in small groups. Centers can help this routine be carried out flawlessly with minimal interruptions. My class is a self-contained classroom consisting of students with varying abilities and needs. Chromebooks offer excellent assistive technology that helps students with special needs access curriculum and information. Google Apps and Extensions in the Chrome Web Store provide many supports to students who may require a different method of instruction. They allow students to access additional resources to support their learning and address their individual needs. There are specialized web apps, screen readers, text-to-speech and speech-to-text, screen magnifiers, curriculum resources, lesson ideas, collaboration tools and so much more. The uses for Chromebooks are endless! The Chromebooks will ensure that all of my students' Individual Education Program goals are met by allowing them to access their online learning supports on a daily basis. Some of the skills they will work on with the Chromebooks are reading fluency, comprehension, written expression, math concepts for the 21st-century learner, in addition to Science, Social Studies, and Health related topics.
