I am currently employed in an urban setting. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about solid, effective educational practices through my current studies in instructional technology. Everything I am learning relates to incorporating technology to help teach 21st century skills. My students have very little, to no, access to technology at home. Current research shows that knowledge of the use of technology not only helps students learn in a manner that helps them retain information better, but it also prepares students for future careers. As a teacher, it is my duty not only to teach valuable content, but also to teach any skills that will help students be as successful as possible in the future.
My school is transitioning into 21st century learning, but technology is not readily available to our students as yet. I have one personal computer and one student computer in my classroom. My average class size is 28 students. At this point, we do not have a computer lab.
