We are returning to the classroom and many students have not had to sit in one place for 18 months! I have requested wobble stools and balance stability ball chairs. These flexible seating options that I am asking to have funded will take the place of traditional seating in the classroom. Concentration grows as they wobble, rock, bounce, or lean, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. Academic mindsets also begin to shift increasing academic engagement with success in both secondary and postsecondary education.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
Flexible seating promotes community and collaboration, which in turn improves and facilitates the learning process. Flexible seating is more comfortable and allows for natural movement, which students need from time to time to stay engaged. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
These resources promote Nevada Academic Content Standards and fulfill COVID-related learning needs in my class by addressing the following standards: 1.ME.2.1, 1.ME.2.2, 5.DMM.2.1, 5.DM.2.2, and 8.AV.2.1.
