I teach eighth grade English and reading to students who are at grade level. My students come from a high poverty area where more than 60% are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch. There are a diverse range of households including nuclear, single parent, multiple-family, foster, and migrant. The large populations of student ethnic backgrounds are Hispanic, Punjabi, and African American with a significant level of English Language Learners. This diverse student body creates a vast range of educational needs as well as personal, social and emotional needs that make this school stand out from more homogeneous districts. However, my students are not limited by their struggles or challenges, and strive for success every day.
