My students consist of 14 boys and girls in grades K-2nd. We are a Special Day Classroom and serve the needs of students with disabilities ranging from Specific Learning Disabilities to Autism. The students in our room are full of energy and excitement when it comes to learning in engaging hands-on ways. We are not a paper and pencil classroom, instead we learn through experiences, through music, through discovery, and through tactile learning tools.
Many of the students in our classroom do not respond well to traditional teaching styles due to their disabilities. They require teaching through the use of additional learning modalities in which they are active and concepts are tied to reality.
