Ten year olds with strong ambitions have a ton of energy and need space to move! Teaching in a tiny portable with 22 mini-adults presents several challenges. I believe a classroom should be a collaborative environment, and that students should not be limited to sitting at desks, or crammed into tight spaces when trying to find a quite place to work around the classroom. Providing my students with an outdoor learning environment will give my students plenty of space to work, move, collaborate, and discover all in the beauty of the Florida sunshine. The convertible benches can easily be turned into a table when 2 are side-by-side, and the over-sized pillows, when placed on the picnic blanket, are perfect for students who prefer to work on the ground. Because some of my students are sensitive to the sun, the outdoor umbrella/canopy will give them equal opportunity to enjoy the fresh air! Having a cart to transport our supplies will ensure transitions to the outdoor classroom are efficient and smooth. Florida is known for its natural beauty, so planters filled with beautiful wildflowers will not only attract butterflies and hummingbirds, but will add to a welcoming and peaceful space in which children are inspired learn.
