I am a English teacher and work in a middle school at a Title 1 school.
The majority of our students are English Language Learners and many families are below the poverty line. A student once told me he did not have a bed and sleeps on the couch. Another told me that she hated going home because her single mom was always working and the student got lonely. Many of our students cannot afford school supplies and need to be on the free/reduced lunch program so they can get a meal for the day. I love my students and want to help them succeed in life even when they think they can't.
