These are for a buy-in. It is to make them excited to come to school. Some have not been in a classroom for over a year. Even for those that have, it was not the least bit normal. I want everyone to be comfortable in my room and know that they count.
I am going to use these in a variety of ways. The first will be a birthday "gift". Of course all students, regardless of weekend or summer birthdays, will get a pick. I purchased a huge wheel and marked one number red. Each time a "guest" comes into the room they will spin the wheel. If it lands on the red, the whole class gets to pick a prize. Lastly, it will be used as a reward. I will keep track so that every student gets showcased once a marking period.
It might seem small to the outside, but kids (yes, 12-year-olds too!), love to be recognized and rewarded.
