Through observation and conferencing, I am convinced these kids don’t love to read only because they are reading books too difficult for them. One of two things happens when these students select “Harry Potter” or “Captain Underpants” at our school library: they struggle through the story, only half-heartedly reading and not comprehending OR they read two pages and toss it aside. They simply don’t realize there are amazing books out there!
