The students I work with are in need of project based learning opportunities. With this project I hope to provide student the opportunity to work cooperatively with others to create sewing projects. Our school already has sewing machines, this project will help allow students to create their own pieces of art with sewing supplies.
This will help our struggling students improve their math and reading skills. These students also struggle with language and are often afraid to speak to their peers. When they are engaged in a STEAM project those fears tend to drop away. They are more actively engaged in the learning without realizing it. By providing the materials and creating these learning opportunities, my students will increase their college and career readiness.
By offering students the chance to learn basic sewing skills, they will truly be learning life skills.
