I work at a Title 1 school serving preschool and kindergarten aged students who primarily live in poverty. The students I serve are in a full-time special education class designed for students with severe language delays and behavioral difficulties. They are often misrepresented and cast aside by people who do not take the time to get to know them. Their behavior and lack of ability to communicate often dissuade people from seeing the amazing potential that they truly have. I have the privilege of spending every day with these students and seeing them grow and develop in incredible ways. They come from challenging backgrounds in many respects, but deserve the right to have experiences and opportunities similar to other children. My students have the capability to move into regular education classes and continue developing into smart, well-rounded individuals.
