It has been said that great literature serves as both a window and a mirror for students- a window into a world they do not know, and a mirror that gives them a deeper look into themselves. I believe that students deserve to see themselves reflected in the books they read, as well as build empathy by learning about the experiences of others.
Many of my students have never seen themselves reflected in the literature they are assigned, and I am passionate about changing this for them.
By providing students with a diverse range of literature, I can help them believe that reading is something that is for them, that is enjoyable, and that is a path toward lifelong success.
