Many of my students come from low income families. They come into the school with very little background knowledge and book knowledge. The more books I can put in their hands, the better they feel about themselves. They are so excited about learning to read, and when they can pick up a book out of the library that is on their level, they get so excited. It makes them feel successful no matter what their reading ability is.
