In our classroom, there are all types of learners. We have English Language Learners, students with special needs, kinesthetic learners, auditory Learners and many, many, more. Every student is unique and has specific interests and needs. iPads provide another way for me to reach each of these individual learners.
Seeing students learn to read is the most amazing thing to witness and the best way to build strong readers is for them to spend time as much time as possible reading. Reading for extended periods of time can be a challenge for struggling readers, English Language Learners, students with special needs and many others. Integrating technology is one way to engage students in text and keep them engaged for longer. iPads give students opportunities to listen and interact with stories in a different way. There are iPad apps that will help students build the skills necessary to be successful readers. iPads provide instruction to supplement the instruction that is already happening.
Visuals work really well for many students when they are learning math concepts. Specific apps on the iPad will offer another mode for students to visualize different mathematics concepts. iPad applications also allow students to interact with and manipulate mathematics tools in a new way. iPads offer differentiation not just for struggling students but also for students that need extension from the 1st-grade curriculum. They will allow me to differentiate the instruction for all different levels and types learners.
