My middle school students are diverse learners who really want to excel in school. However, they need extra supports and different learning strategies in order to achieve their goals, but their thirst for knowledge and enthusiasm for learning are contagious!
My 7th grade math students with learning disabilities really enjoy learning math by using manipulatives.
Many need concepts presented multiple ways and benefit from visual reinforcement of skills and having tangible, concrete examples of mathematical concepts. All of them need extra practice and guidance in a small group setting in order to master those skills.
My school is very diverse. Many of my students are immigrants, some are even refugees, and almost all our students are bilingual. My students are also 97% low income, and all of the students I work with are special needs.
