I have a self contained class of eleven students (1st-5th grade) most of whom have autism, a few with an Intellectual Disability. We are in an inner city, lower income school in Texas. My students are with me all day learning academics as well as life skills. They learn about personal hygiene, communication skills, and vocational skills for employment opportunities in the future. I keep the same students in my class from 1st grade until they finish 5th grade and are ready for middle school (with new first graders coming in each year). My students have many obstacles to overcome but each year they amaze me with how much growth and progress they make toward their goals! I am
So proud of their accomplishments!
