I work in a public school that is considered high poverty and many of my students haven't seen a picture book prior to starting school. For lots of my students who have seen books, no one has read it to them because often times the parents can't read English or are uncomfortable doing so. Many of my families have recently moved to the U.S. in the last decade for the hope of a better life for their children. My children are encouraged to do well in school and come to school excited and eager. Everyday I spend with them is truly a blessing as they teach me as much as I teach them.
